IHS services provide support and training in community living service categories for people 18 years or older who live in their own homes. Individualized home supports can be provided in the person’s own home or in public community settings and either in person or remotely.

Respite may be provided in the individual’s, or the respite provider’s home. Out-of-home respite: may be provided outside of the person’s home or place of residence. This service is available under various payment options including, Medical Assistance Home and Community Based Services (waiver programs) as well as private pay.
Personal Support is non-medical care, assistance and supervision provided in the individual’s home or community. This service is one-on-one and intended to help our clients increase their independence and involvement in a community setting typically used by the general public to a full potential. Personal Support Services are available to individuals on either the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver, Community Alternative Care (CAC) Waiver, or the Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) Waiver.
Adult Companion Services is non-medical care, supervision and socialization provided to an individual 18 years or older. Adult companion services help a person work toward a therapeutic or community integration goal in their support plan.
The adult companion support staff may:
*Play a board game to hone the individual's fine motor skills
*Attend a movie with the person to practice coping skills
*Attend an event to reduce the individual's social isolation
This service also assists or supervise the person with tasks such as laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation and shopping. This service is available to individuals on the Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) Waiver or Community Alternative Care (CAC) Waiver.

There are three different types of IHS services:
Without Training, With Training and With Family Training.
Support for individualized home supports:
A staff member providing direct supervision, cueing, maintenance, guidance, instruction, incidental assistance with activities of daily living or assistance with coordination of community living activities.
Training for individualized home supports:
Instructional services through which a person receives direct training from a staff member on community living skills identified in a person’s assessment (e.g., MnCHOICES, long-term care consultation [LTCC]). Training includes skill building to acquire, retain and improve the person’s experience living in the community.
